What are cheek fillers?
Like lip fillers, cheek fillers are used to add volume, and or to augment the cheeks. They are safe cosmetic agents injected around or near the cheekbone, also known as the zygomatic arch. The two main types of cheek fillers are the hyaluronic acid filler and the collagen-based filler. Both hyaluronic acid and collagen are naturally occurring substances found in our bodies. Hyaluronic acid works to enhance cheek volume by promoting water retention in the cheek tissue, whereas collagen is a physical filler which supplements the skin’s own natural collagen. Cheek fillers are also behind the transformation of many well-known celebrities with beautifully defined and full looking cheeks.
A number of cheek fillers have now been approved and are in use. The type of cheek filler you chose for your treatment will depend on your desired results. Your aesthetic provider can use cheek fillers to:
Give you a fuller looking cheek
Create a more defined looking cheek
It is also worth noting that the results seen after cheek filler enhancement or augmentation does not only depend on the type of filler used, but also the amount of filler used, the injection technique and your unique anatomy.
How long do cheek filler results last for?
This depends on the type of filler used and individual factors such as skin type, age, area treated and smoking. Taking into account these factors, cheek enhancement treatment can generally last between 6-12months.
What are the side effects?
As with any dermal filler, some side effects include redness to the site of injection, swelling and slight soreness. However these are short-lived and don’t usually last for more than 48hours.
